Why Pigs ?

Charles was brought up on the farm and always wanted to keep pigs but the books he read as a teenager put him off. In 2005 we decided to buy some weaners. We made little progress until a friend of a friend decided to back-back round New Zealand and wanted to sell his pigs.

Within 4 weeks we had a pig arc , some bags of pig food, a bale of straw and 4 new residents. We fattened these and three have subsequently been consumed locally !.
We soon decided that we liked pigs, and wanted more. We felt that it would be good to support a rare breed as well, and with a local organic Farmer Tim Garry keeping Saddlebacks this became our choice. Modbury Farm is only a few miles from us and sells a range of local and organic produce.
